Micah Bernhard

Micah Bernhard, our BMitzvah Cantorial Soloist and Shabbat Soloist  is a modern Jewish musician. With a deep reverence for tradition, he weaves together the best of the ancient wisdom and contemporary sound to craft unique compositions and musical experiences that creates space for people at all points of their journey to experience a potent connection to the joy of Jewish spirituality. 

Having grown up working as the song leader at summer camp and in youth groups, Micah sought to bring the ruach of camp into the synagogue. After much exploration into both music and text, he began seeking out the depth and yearning available in Jewish music. 

This searching lead him to form song and chant circles in Los Angeles and Jerusalem, creating community around song and prayer. Before leaving Los Angeles to study at Pardes Institute in Jerusalem, Micah had spent Shabbats and family weekends as a Shabbat soloist with Congregation Or Ami. He writes, “I’m so happy to return home, not just to Los Angeles, but to a community that has welcomed me with open arms and sung with me with full hearts.” Having spent a year studying at Pardes and interning with Nava Tehila he seeks to bring all that he has learned from Israel to Or Ami.
