Sarah is currently a 3rd year Masters' student in Jewish Education at Hebrew Union College's Rhea Hirsch School of Education. She is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, where she earned her B.A. in Religion, admired fall foliage, and ate copious amounts of cheddar cheese. At Middlebury, Sarah served as president of Middlebury's Hillel and worked as a Tzedek (Social Justice) Advocacy Intern through Hillel International. After college, Sarah's passion for Judaism brought her back to her native Bay Area, where she worked as a full time Youth Advisor and Religious School Teacher at Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, CA. At Beth Am, she developed a passion for curriculum writing and teaching. She particularly enjoyed working with middle and high school students, inspiring her to make a career of Jewish education.
Sarah loves the synergy between studying Jewish texts, exploring visions of education, and learning experientially through internships. Last year, she interned at Temple Beth Sholom in Santa Ana, CA, teaching teens, adults, and families. When not learning or teaching, Sarah enjoys traveling, yoga, and learning how to sew.
Having taught previously in two family education programs, at Beth Am and Beth Sholom, Sarah is a great believer in Jewish family education. She says, "Jewish family education inspires families to develop their Jewish identities together in amazing experiential, creative ways." She is so excited to be a part of our innovative model of family education, and particularly thrilled to join Or Ami's warm, inclusive community.
